EXO

Martens & Visser push the boundaries of wood. EXO is crafted fromwood less than a millimeter thick, built up from four delicate layers. Working with wood is a deliberate choice—it is a living, natural material that carries warmth and authenticity. Using a technique of extreme precision, each piece is cut with a blade, ensuring clean,sharp lines. These incisions allow the wood to transform into a three-dimensional object, bending effortlessly in two directions. The structure is fixed in a minimalist way, preserving its sculptural form. This second series consists of 26 unique pieces, with each work in the series featuring its own distinct color palette and pattern.

The shapes and colors emerge from an intuitive process—experimentation with the material itself defines the design. We seek forms that feel harmonious, elegant, and unexpected. The pieces strike a balance between control and organic expression. Objects that spark the imagination— their organic, gently curved shapes echo elements of nature, such as leaves or shells, while subtly hinting at a mask-like presence.

Precise linear cut-outs create an interplay of light and shadow, allowing the piece to subtly engage with its surroundings. As light shifts across the surface, the depth and dimensionality of the object come to life.
